The Bionic Elbow #5: 7/14/2125
by Scoop Muldoon
Some big announcements came out of the first Gym Wars card a few days ago. IFC officials announced that the tournament format would end with the IFC 3 tournament. The winner of this tournament will be crowned the IFC Grand Champion. After that fighters will only fight once per card and the Grand Championship will be defended on the shows. There is talk of eventually developing weight classes but the general sentiment backstage is that the IFC isn't big enough to have competitive divisions at this point in time.
I asked various IFC officials about the decision to remove the tournament format. I was told that the fighters hated it because of taking so many losses and the officials also felt it would hurt the brand if fans saw the majority of the fighters losing on a show by show basis. It was also felt that fans respond better to having a champion at the top and guys chasing him. I for one will be interested to see what happens if Bobcat Jack doesn't win this tournament after winning the first two. I would think if he doesn't win the championship he would have to be the guy getting the first opportunity to win the belt.
The brackets for the final IFC tournament will be as follows:
Bobcat Jack (6-0) vs. Punk A.D. (0-2) Warhawk (1-2) vs. Party Pirate (1-1) Rocky (1-0) vs. Tick Tock (0-2) Rabbid (1-1) vs. Yoko-Ohno (0-2)
Non-Tournament: Honest Abe (1-1) vs. Vincitor (1-1)
Kind of a disappointing final tournament if you ask me. I would say Bobcat Jack has a pretty easy road to the finals. Though you never know. He might be overconfident at 6-0 and fall victim to someone in the first two rounds or even suffer an injury. I think there is a great amount of excitement about what the IFC is going to look like after this final tournament. I expect to see a much more functional promotion with better match ups personally. The tournament format was fun the first time but I think it was providing some issues with the repeated use.
Next issue, I'll be breaking down the results of the show and talking about hopefully where the IFC is planning to go next.

IFC 3: September 5, 2125
Round 1:
Bobcat Jack (7-0) KOs Punk A.D. (0-3) with the Superman Punch This one was almost elementary as Jack just chipped away at Punk with jabs and then finished him off with the Superman Punch. Bobcat Jack is headed back to the semi-finals for the third time in as many shows.
Hype McLeod stops Bobcat Jack as he climbs out of the octagon.
McLeod: Another IFC show and another impressive victory for Bobcat Jack. Jack, you've clearly been the class of the IFC so far, do you think anyone can stop you from becoming the first ever IFC Grand Champion? Jack: Honestly... no. I've scouted the landscape of this tournament and I don't think any of these guys have what it takes to beat me. I'm going to be walking out of here with a shiny new belt tonight.
Party Pirate (2-1) KOs War Hawk (1-3) with the Party Punch Party Pirate continues to improve as he kept War Hawk off balance for the majority of this fight. He finally caught War Hawk with the Party Punch and that was all she wrote. Party Pirate is heading to the semi-finals to square off with Bobcat Jack.
Tick Tock (1-2) submits Rocky (1-1) with the Thumb Trap This one was a real shocker. Rocky came out quick with some big shots right to the face of Tick Tock. TT surprised a lot in the crowd as he managed to survive the big punches and finally got Rocky down. Rocky avoided a number of sub attempts but Tick Tock finally got the Thumb Trap locked in and Rocky was forced to tap out. Tick Tock has earned a spot in the semi-finals.
Yoko-Ohno (1-2) KOs Rabbid (1-2) with the Bonzai Splash Ohno and Rabbid spent most of this fight in the clinch and exchanging slams. Ohno seemed to finally gain the upper hand and took Rabbid down with a number of brutal slams before hitting the Bonzai Drop and picking up the win. Yoko-Ohno is headed to the semi-finals to face Tick Tock.
Semi-Finals:
Bobcat Jack (8-0) KOs Party Pirate (2-2) with a Solar Plexus Strike Pirate had Jack well scouted for this match. Jack went for the Superman Punch a few times and Pirate easily avoided it every time. Pirate was also landing some nice shots of his own and had Jack on his heels. Jack showed why he's a crafty veteran and changed his strategy up mid-fight. Jack started going in for the clinch and wearing Pirate down with dirty boxing and knees. Pirate didn't have an answer for this and Jack caught him with a Solar Plexus Strike and Pirate was unable to continue. Bobcat Jack is one victory away from winning the IFC Grand Championship.
Hype McLeod announces that both Tick Tock and Yoko-Ohno were injured during their first round matches and will be unable to continue. Tiki Boom and Death Star will be taking their places in the semi-finals.
Tiki Boom (1-0) KOs Death Star (2-3) with the Rasta Chops Tiki Boom looked excited to finally get his number called in the IFC and came out on fire. He dominated Death Star with his strikes and even hit a nice slam in the match. Death Star just couldn't get anything going as Tiki Boom caught him with the Rasta Chops for the victory. Tiki Boom is heading to the finals to face off with Bobcat Jack for the IFC Grand Championship.
Non-Tournament: Honest Abe (2-1) submits Vincitor (1-2) with the Lincoln Lock This was a different speed for the night. There were very few strikes or slams in this match. This was all about who could get a takedown and work the best hold during the match. Abe and Vincitor looked pretty evenly matched as the match progressed. Abe finally got the Lincoln Lock applied and Vincitor was forced to tap out. Honest Abe picks up a nice win here.
Final:
Bobcat Jack (9-0) submits Tiki Boom (1-1) with the Iron Claw to win the IFC Grand Championship Jack wasn't to be denied at this stage in the game. He got Tiki Boom down and locked on the Iron Claw and that was it. 3 Tournaments and 9 wins later and Bobcat Jack is the undisputed champion of the galaxy.
Hype McLeod comes in to interview with the new IFC Champion.
McLeod: Another tournament victory for Bobcat Jack. How does it feel to be the first ever Grand Champion. Jack: How much do you think this belt is worth? McLeod: I don't know... couple thousand maybe... why? Jack: I was thinking about hitting the casinos on the way home and was wondering what this thing would get me on credit. McLeod: ... Jack: I've been saying all year that I'm the best fighter in the galaxy. This belt right here proves that. I've come into this promotion 3 times now and I have yet to lose. The IFC officials can go out there and set up whatever matches they want to. But the truth is, they're going to have to get in the octagon with me eventually and they're going to take a loss. I plan on holding this belt for a really really long time. If anyone listening doesn't like it, then come take it from me.

Gotta love Bobcat Jack. He's on a hot streak in my league as well. Great show. Keep up the great work.

What will happen is there will be a 4 man tournament across the next 2 shows and the winner will take on Jack for the first title challenge. So he's going to get about 6 months of game world time off.

Wow, Bobcat pulled it off. He was riding the hot hand (see what I did there), but I didn't think he'd get thru it all. He proved me wrong, and neat to see this streak.

IFC 4: 2/24/2125
Death Star (3-3) KOs Tick Tock (1-3) with the Shooting Star
The Messenger (2-2) KOs Ken Po (1-2) with the Last Rites
Yoko-Ohno (2-2) KOs Punk A.D. (0-4) with the Bonzai Splash
War Hawk (2-3) KOs Vincitor (1-3) with the War Dance
Number 1 Contender Tournament: Honest Abe (3-1) submits Krusher Khan (3-3) with the Lincoln Lock
Hype McLeod stops Honest Abe as he leaves the octagon.
McLeod: Another win for Honest Abe at IFC 4. Abe, you've now won 3 fights in a row and you're just a single fight away from a potential title match with Bobcat Jack. How do you like your chances in a rematch? Abe: I've been training hard since the first IFC tournament. I learned a lot from that first match with Jack. He's a really tough guy and he is the main in the IFC right now. But I'm training hard and I'm not going to be an easy victory for him. I'm a strong wrestler and I've shown that my striking can be dangerous. McLeod: You'll be facing the winner of our next match at the next IFC. Do you have a preference for an opponent? Abe: Party Pirate has shown himself to be a crafty fighter in there. That Party Punch of his will put you out in a second if you aren't careful. Tiki is an explosive athlete that can just overwhelm you. They would both be tough in there.
Number 1 Contender Tournament: Tiki Boom (2-1) KOs Party Pirate (2-3) with the Boom Shaka-Laka
IFC Grand Champion Bobcat Jack comes out with Hype McLeod.
McLeod: It is set in stone for the main event of IFC 5. It will be Honest Abe vs. Tiki Boom, the winner gets a title match. What do you think about the last two men standing in this tournament? Jack: Frankly, been there done that. Both men are good fighters but I have wins over both at earlier shows. And this time I'm not going to be conserving my strength due to the tournament format. McLeod: What's it like to hold the gold in the IFC? Jack: Well... I haven't had to buy a beer or a cigar for myself since I won the gold so pretty great.

IFC 5: 2/13/2126
Vincitor (2-3) submits Tick Tock (1-4) with the Kinniku Special
Hype McLeod stops Vincitor as he gets out of the octagon.
McLeod: An impressive win to kick off IFC 5. How do you like fighting in the IFC? Vincitor: It was a lot tougher than I expected. These guys are really good. Just being an elite wrestler hasn't cut it for me so far. I've had to learn how to strike and stand with people. Being able to take guys down just isn't enough. But I like the progress I'm making. I've also got great teammates working with me and helping me out. I'm rooting for Honest Abe to win that title shot tonight.
Punk A.D. (1-4) KOs El Pikador (0-1) with the Tornado Turbo Punch
Rabbid (2-2) KOs Rocky (1-2) with the Spine Smasher
Krusher Khan (4-3) KOs Yoko-Ohno (2-3) with the Soviet Sickle
The Messenger (2-2) KOs War Hawk (2-4) with the Last Rites
Number 1 Contender Tournament Final: Honest Abe (4-1) KOs Tiki Boom (2-2) with the Ax Handle Smash
IFC Grand Champion Bobcat Jack enters the octagon after the match. He stares down Honest Abe as the show fades to black.
