BRUTAL Fighting League 20
Showdown 2 is in the books! And what an event it was! If you missed any of the action, be sure to check it out on the BRUTAL Network! Who will be the next to challenge Shane Studd for the BRUTAL Fighting League Championship? We will find out tonight!
1. Ultra Sanda vs Croak -- The opening contest featured the young warrior for Justice taking on the Monster from the Marshlands! As usual, Sanda was at a weight and height disadvantage to his opponent, but also as usual, that did not stop him as he went straight at Croak! Sanda got in several bursts of offense, but Croak did not seem to suffer much ill effect. The big man was able to connect with a Frog Stomp, but Sanda escape the ensuing pin at a very long 2! Sanda battled back, but in the end he could not overcome his opponent's superior strength, and Croak won with a War Hammer.
2. El Halcon vs Olympia (with Outlaw) -- The BRUTAL Board of Governors has promised some new faces in the wake of Showdown 2, and we met the first two of these new faces in the second match of the evening, as El Halcon took on Olympia, who along with his longtime partner Outlaw are known as the duo The Spinebusters. Halcon was game, but the savvy veteran Olympia was more than up to the challenge, and was not above taking a few shortcuts along the way. In the end it was academic as Olympia drove Halcon hard into the mat with the Spinetapper for the victory.
Afterwards, we got a quick word from Olympia, speaking in a calm, measured voice which left no doubt to the malice within. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not going to come out here, rant and rave like some hopped-up lunatic. You KNOW who we are. You SAW what I just did to that man being helped to the back, and you will see what THIS MAN standing next to me can do. Olympia, and Outlaw, are here to put all of BRUTAL on notice! We don't care who you know, or who you think you are... the Spinebusters are here, and folks, it's now time, to break some necks, and cash some checks."
3. Buck Tomkins vs HT Mahoney -- Both of these men had rough nights at Showdown, although Mahoney had been seemingly the worse for ware after his and Road Rage's violent clash with Warhawk and Tommy Hawk. Before the match, we were informed that while Mahoney was cleared by medical, but that the other men in the match were not cleared for competition this week as a result of that match. Additionally, we also learned that neither Crimson Cross nor Disturbed Youth were cleared for competition, but that we should have an update on all of these men next week.
Tomkins seemed fired up against Mahoney, who despite clearly showing some wear and tear from his Showdown match was more than ready to lay a hurting on his opponent! Mahoney threw his weight around in the match, pushing any advantage he could to punish Tomkins, but Buck kept hanging around, getting in offense here and there until he could take control! Tomkins hoisted the big man up and nailed the Thundering Stampede for the victory!
Special Announcement -- A page dashed to the ring, carrying a sealed envelope marked with the BRUTAL Board of Governors seal. "Ladies and gentlemen, the BRUTAL Board of Governors--" The inevitable chorus of boos rain down on the poor page, who probably is not paid well enough to take this abuse. "The BRUTAL Board of Governors has issued the following statement, to be announced immediately!"
The page hands the microphone to the official, and then begins to open the envelope. We say "begins" because it takes him several seconds to find a seam, then begin tearing the edge of the envelope, only for it to rip off in a small piece, forcing him to start again. The boos and jeers start up again, and a vulgar chant began which was edited for broadcast due to it failing content restriction for BRUTAL Network. After what seems ages, the page gets the envelope open and removes a single sheet of paper.
"The BRUTAL Board of Governors--" the boos start again, but the page just keeps reading, "--hereby announces that, beginning next week right here on BRUTAL Fighting League, live on BRUTAL Network, a 3 round, 7 man tournament shall begin, with the winner earning the right to face the BRUTAL Fighting League champion one-on-one for the championship at Showdown 3!" This earns a positive response from the crowd, although there is clearly some confusion as to why it is only 7 men. "The former champion, Yoko Ohno, owing to several factors including but not limited to his strong win/loss record and exemplary conduct as champion, shall be granted a first round bye!" And now the boos start up again.
"The other six competitors shall be announced following tonight's episode of BRUTAL Fighting League, LIVE on Brutal Network!" So there you have it, Shane Studd's next challenger will be determined by tournament, but it looks like the Board of Governors is stacking the deck against the champion once again!
NEXT WEEK: Round 1 of the Number One Contender Tournament begins! Who will the Board of Governors select for the chance to earn a shot against Shane Studd? Plus Headhunter will be in action following his shocking sudden victory over Rampage at Showdown 2! Plus more BRUTAL action!

Man, not one push over in that tournament. And it is not surprising with Douglas R. Gordon negotiating the deal, that Yoko gets a first round bye. His clients do tend to always get the upper hand in all deals.

BRUTAL Fighting League 21
The participants in the Number One Contender Tournament have been announced! Tonight we will begin the first round to determine the next challenger for Shane Studd's BRUTAL Championship!
1. Warhawk vs Dr. Matematico -- The opening contest saw two men who both have the support of the crowd, and embody the competitive spirit of BRUTAL Fighting League, with the veteran Warhawk facing the Irrational Luchador Dr. Matematico. An athletic, back and forth match, Warhawk seemed to have the victory secured following a War Dance, but somehow Dr. Matematico slipped out of the pinning combination! Matematico went on the offensive, but the wily veteran was able to reassert control, and hit a second War Dance for the win.
During the match, we were told that Road Rage, Tommy Hawk, Crimson Cross and Disturbed Youth have all been cleared by medical to compete following their matches at Showdown 2.
2. Headhunter vs Muck -- After making his shocking debut at Showdown 2, Headhunter returns for his first match on BRUTAL Fighting League TV, facing the shambling mockery of a man called Muck! These was not a technical classic by any definition, as both fighters pounded each other back and forth! Headhunter seemed to be able to resist anything Muck threw at him, and gained the upper hand. Locking in a Nerve Clamp, he was able to push Muck off his feet onto the mat! With the hold locked on tight, Muck was unable to escape, and the official ended the match after determining that Muck could not defend himself. After the match, Headhunter rhythmically slapped his belly as he left the ring, to the delight of the crowd.
Backstage, we caught up with Sam Dunk before his tournament match. "Some folks are asking how I got a spot in this tournament, when I've never set foot in a BRUTAL ring before. Well, all I can say is that the Board of Governors? They've got some good taste, and they know talent when they see it. And tonight, all these people here are gonna see it, too -- 'cuz Sam Dunk has taken his talents to BRUTAL, baby, and it's showtime!"
3. First Round: Cosmic Nightmare vs Sam Dunk -- Before and during the match, the vidscreens showed the tournament bracket, with the winner of this match facing none other than Yoko Ohno in the semifinals! Cosmic Nightmare made his way out first, delighting in tormenting the crowd and accepting their jeers. The reaction reversed when Sam Dunk entered -- while not as loud a response as the fan's top favorites, it seems that they were eager to see someone put the Nightmare in his place!
Nightmare showed no fear as he got right in Sam's face! But Sam didn't back down either, and folks looking for a wrestling match were treated to a fight instead! Nightmare as usual looked to land his heavy hands and score a KO, but Sam's agility and skill meant that Nightmare whiffed with both lefts and rights, to the delight of the crowd! But Sam was not just avoiding contact, as he landed big blows of his own in return!
Nightmare didn't seem to know what to do against the newcomer, and rather than change tactics, kept looking to land heavy fists, but to no avail! Finally, Sam took solid control of the match, and finished off the Nightmare with his Sam Dunk Slam to secure the win and advance in the tournament! Afterwards, the crowd gave Sam a solid ovation, having won their approval in his debut!
NEXT WEEK: The first round of the Number One Contender Tournament continues as Buck Tomkins faces Disturbed Youth! Outlaw will make his BRUTAL Fighting League debut! And Tommy Hawk in action! All next week on BRUTAL Fighting League!

BRUTAL Fighting League 22
Another semifinalist will be set in the Number One Contender tournament tonight! Will it be Buck Tomkins, or Shane Studd's ZDL cohort Disturbed Youth?!
1. Muck vs Outlaw (with Olympia) -- After seeing the debut of Olympia two weeks ago, his partner Outlaw made his in-ring debut, facing off against Muck. The big beast had the size and strength advantage, but Outlaw is just as crafty as his partner, and was able to continually get the upper hand. But after Muck reestablished control thanks to his physical power, he was able to pick up the victory with a Muckraker! This was immediately followed by a chop block from behind by Olympia, and then a viscous two-on-one beatdown by the Spinebusters on Muck! A chorus of boos and jeers echoed throughout the arena as Olympia and Outlaw did their dirty deed and retreated to the back.
2. Chomper (with Croak) vs Tommy Hawk -- When the arena was filled with the ambient sound of frogs and other swamp creatures, the crowd through that Croak was getting set to compete, but instead it was the newcomer Chomper, being accompanied by Croak! The Vanguard of Violence Tommy Hawk doesn't care who is opponent is, so long as he gets to commit unspeakable mayhem, which he wasted no time in executing! But Tommy was met with equal ferocity by Chomper, who despite his size, fights like a pit bull dog! Tommy was able to get the victory with the Tommy Gunn, and all the while, Croak merely looked on dispassionately.
Backstage, we caught up with Disturbed Youth for a quick comment. "Do I relish the idea of fighting Shane Studd for the BRUTAL Championship? I relish any chance to hold the glittering prize at the top of the pyramid. And guess what? If you ask Shane Studd, he'll tell you the same thing. I don't fear Shane, I don't fear Crimson Cross, and I don't fear Buck Tomkins. All of BRUTAL and all of the world must accept the inevitable -- that the future is DISTURBED!"
3. First Round: Buck Tomkins vs Disturbed Youth -- The next match in the tournament to determine who will challenge Shane Studd for the BRUTAL Fighting League Championship is on! Both Tomkins and Youth receive warm welcomes from the crowd, though it must be said that the demographics were a bit different for each man's supporters. Both men stared the other down from the across the ring as the pre-match tension grew. Finally the bell was rung and it was on!
The match was a back and forth affair, both men being similarly driven to advance and equally resistant to a mental mistake early on. Buck had a slight power advantage, and Youth seemingly the technical edge, but overall the men were evenly matched and neither held onto control for more than a minute or two at a clip. The match was clean, with no shortcuts or illegal tactics from either man.
Finally, Tomkins managed to scoop up Youth, and put him on his shoulder, seemingly having him dead to rights for the Thundering Stampede. The crowd was tingling with anticipation as Tomkins charged for the far corner! But the Disturbed One is as cagey as they come, and he slid off of Tomkins shoulders at the last second, shoulder blocking his opponent in the back, sending Tomkins crashing into the corner instead! Youth then immediately pounced to the top rope, and nailed the prone Tomkins with the Spike Leg Drop for the 1-2-3! Disturbed Youth has advanced in the tournament!
After the match, Youth and Tomkins stared each other down again for a moment, but shook hands to the crowd's approval. Youth then merely pointed at the video screen showing the updated tournament bracket!
NEXT WEEK: The Number One Contender Tournament continues, as we learn who will face Disturbed Youth in the semifinals! Will it be the bad man from the Rockies, Rampage? Or Youth's blood rival, Crimson Cross?! Plus Shane Studd himself will be in action!

BRUTAL Fighting League 23
The final first round match in the Number One Contender Tournament is tonight! Who will advance to the semifinals -- Crimson Cross or Rampage?!
1. Ultra Sanda vs HT Mahoney -- The show opened with a matchup of two polar opposites -- the beloved fan favorite Ultra Sanda, and merciless turncoat HT Mahoney. Sanda started fast, but Mahoney's size was more than an equalizer, and he quickly took control. But, true to form, Sanda refused to stay down, and slowly began a comeback. The end came suddenly, as the smaller man was able to get enough separation to level Mahoney with Zero Bomber and pick up the victory!
After the match, a page dashed to the ring to make an announcement. "The BRUTAL Board of Governors--" the page began, pausing to allow the expected riot of boos to die down. "The BRUTAL Board of Governors formally announces that if Disturbed Youth interferes with the First Round match tonight between Crimson Cross and Rampage, he will be, effective immediately, suspended and removed from the Number One Contender tournament!" Once more this brings out the jeers, and the page is more than happy to get out of the ring at this point.
2. Shane Studd vs Road Rage (non-title) -- Back to the action, the next match once again was divided among clear cut lines for the BRUTAL fans, with Road Rage (whom the crowd hates apparently even more than his partner HT Mahoney) taking on the "big cheese" himself Shane Studd, who always gets the largest response, even in a non-title bout such as this one. Road Rage was the proverbial bull in a china shop, charging right in at Studd and using his weight and size advantage. But Studd is no slouch in the power department, and the two traded the advantage back and forth. Eventually Road Rage got the upper hand, leaning on Studd as he did, locking in the Suicide Clutch! All seemed lost, but the champion was able to dig deep, amidst the roaring support of the crowd, and fight, claw, and pull his way to the ropes to force a break! That lit a fire under Studd, who immediately turned the tables on Road Rage and took control! He had the bigger man reeling, and then hoisted him over with a T-Bone Suplex for the hard-won victory!
After the match, as Crimson Cross was making his way to the ring, the camera crew tried to get a word from him, but Cross paid them no mind, pushing right past them without pausing. A few feet down the hallway, however, and Cross stopped -- staring straight into the eyes of Disturbed Youth! The two rivals stared at each other intensely for a second with a crackling energy hanging in the air. Then Youth's face crimped into a tight, toothy grin, and he took a step to his left, allowing Cross to pass and head towards the ring without incident!
3. First Round: Crimson Cross vs Rampage -- The final match of the first round would determine who would face Disturbed Youth in the semifinals! While neither man is particularly popular with the BRUTAL crowd, they knew that they were in for a fight, and this matchup did not disappoint! Immediately after the bell both men immediately closed on each other, and the battle was on!
Rampage continually used his massive frame and cinder-block fists to hammer his opponent, but the unpredictable Cross would give as good as he got, selling dearly every blow that the big man landed. Neither man asked for quarter and none was given, as the brawl raged both inside and outside of the ring! As Rampage was chasing Cross back into the ring, Cross got a head of steam and absolutely leveled Rampage with the Bombjack! But before the hand could fall a third time, Rampage got his shoulder up!
Lumbering back to his feet, the Behemoth seemed even more enraged than normal, bull rushing Cross into a corner and unloading once more with a series of lefts and rights. Cross kept his hands up to defend himself, trying to tie up Rampage's neck and shoulders and throw knees to counter. But even this could not slow down Rampage's assault, as he continued to rock Cross with heavy hands -- the crowd's response shifting from appreciative approval to sharp rebuke. Finally, Rampage let up, with Cross's rough frame being held up by the corner. The BRUTAL official went into check on Cross, but before he could make an evaluation, Rampage snagged Cross with a meaty paw, pulled him to the center of the ring, and flattened him with a Boulder Bomb! The ref had no choice but to make the count, and Rampage earned his spot in the semifinals, amidst a shower of negativity from the crowd.
After Rampage made his way out, and Cross was shoving away the official's assistance, Disturbed Youth appeared on the stage with a microphone in his hand, and the normally stoic ZDL Enforcer looked hot. "It could have been you and me, Crimson Cross! It could have been you and me, in that ring, but you threw it all away! It could have been you and me punching a ticket for the title, but you blew the whole damn thing, because you're a loser! I could have come out here and left you laying, let Rampage have his way with you, but I stayed my hand, I held back, and look at yourself! Look at yourself!" At this Youth simply shakes his head and walks away, while in the ring, Cross knows that he is in no shape for a fight right now, but the rage burns hot in his eyes nonetheless!
NEXT WEEK: The Final Four have been set, and the semifinals round begins! Who will take one step forward in the quest to challenge Shane Studd for the BRUTAL Championship? Will anything be able to contain the anger of Crimson Cross after a defeat in the Number One Contender Tournament and a verbal lashing by Disturbed Youth? Plus more new faces as we see the debut of The Galactics!
